Spring Show: An Homage to Wifredo Lam
Miami— April 6, 2023 — This April, Tresart is proud to celebrate 23 years of showcasing outstanding works of art from around the world. To mark this milestone, we are delighted to present an exhibition that honors the life and work of one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century, Wifredo Lam (Cuban, 1902-1982). Spring Show: An Homage to Wifredo Lam, on view by appointment only from April 14th-28th, 2023, will showcase a selection of Lam’s works spanning from the 1940s to the 1970s. It is a fitting tribute to an artist whose work has been a constant source of inspiration to the gallery and worldwide art lovers.
Tresart has a long-standing relationship with Wifredo Lam’s work. From the very beginning, our director, Antonio de La Guardia, has been passionate about showcasing the works of this iconic artist. Over the years, the gallery has proudly displayed an extensive selection of Lam’s work, from his early sketches to his final masterpieces, and has made an important contribution to the artist’s recognition as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century by placing a large number of works in distinguished private and public collections.

Lam was born in Cuba in 1902 and, in the 1920s, he moved to Europe, first to Spain and then to Paris, where he became involved with the Surrealist movement. He later returned to Cuba and his work became a synthesis of his European experiences and his Afro-Cuban roots. The exhibition highlights the influence of African and Caribbean cultures on Lam’s art, with paintings featuring abstracted figures and symbols with images of gods, spirits, and animals that showcase his interest in African masks and religious practices. Tresart’s Spring Show: An Homage to Wifredo Lam provides an opportunity to celebrate Tresart’s 23rd Anniversary while paying homage to Lam, a testament to the gallery’s continued commitment to showcasing 20th Century Masters.
